Chelsea received a boost on Tuesday ahead of their Premier League game at Everton when Mikel John Obi returned to full training after seven weeks on the sidelines.

The Nigeria international has been out since injuring a hamstring in the 1-1 draw at Tottenham Hotspur in December, but was back with the rest of the squad ahead of the trip to Goodison Park on Saturday.

Shanghai Shenhua are trying to sign the Stoke City defender Matthew Upson, while talks continue about Didier Drogba joining his former Chelsea strike partner Nicolas Anelka at the Chinese club.

The Shenhua official Ma Yue said on Tuesday that the Chinese Super League side were in talks with the former England defender Upson but declined to give a timeline for the negotiations with the 32-year-old centre-half.

Shenhua have also been strongly linked with the Ivory Coast striker Drogba and Ma again refused to rule out the signing.

Asked about Drogba and Upson joining, Ma said: “There is nothing confirmed. We are still in the midst of discussions.”
