• ‘Ancelotti has brought great calmness’
• ‘We need to do what Man United have done and retain it’
John Terry paid tribute to the Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti after they blazed to their first Premier League title in four years with an 8-0 win over Wigan.
“He’s brought great calmness,” said Terry, “a free spirit to let the lads go and play. He leaves it down to us to do what we want to do.”
On Chelsea’s barren years he said: “It’s been a hurt inside of me for three years, watching Manchester United lift the title. Now it’s their turn to watch.”
“We’ve got the title back now and we need to do what Man United have done and retain it. We deserved it.”
Ancelotti said: “It’s fantastic, we did our best and I did my best for this club. There’s a fantastic atmosphere at this club, with these supporters, and I think we deserved to win the championship after this season.
“There are a lot of things we’re happy about. We’re happy for this record, for Didier being the top scorer, but the most important thing is that we showed some good play.”
Asked about matching José Mourinho’s legacy, the Italian said: “Mourinho did some fantastic work and won two titles consecutively. This is my first and I hope to do the same as Mourinho.”
