• England centre-half given time off, confirms Ray Wilkins
• ‘John and Carlo decided that would be best for all concerned’
Chelsea’s assistant manager, Ray Wilkins, has confirmed that John Terry will not play against Cardiff City in the FA Cup on Saturday and will be given time off.
Terry was sacked as England captain last Friday after allegations surrounding his private life. According to reports, Terry is planning to join his wife, Toni, in Dubai this weekend.
Wilkins said Terry and Chelsea’s manager, Carlo Ancelotti, had discussed the defender’s break from club duties.
Following that discussion, Wilkins said, “John will not play this weekend. Carlo is giving him a bit of time off. He will come back and prepare for our game against Wolves on the 20th. They just had a little chat, John and Carlo, and decided that would be the best for all concerned.”
Terry played the full 90 minutes for Chelsea against Everton tonight and had been in good form before this defeat.
